Mkhulisi was an ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) member. She joined the district municipality in 2015 as deputy mayor, and was elected mayor in 2016. She championed a number of good causes, from community development, organised labour, and fought for women’s and children’s rights. She met with founder Thore of Children of Zululand on several occations and Thore was invited to take part in the Nelson Mandela Day program, together with the Mayor and the District Municipality in 2019. We salute her life and mourn her passing. Rest in peace!
