Norwegian Cemetary – Not a pride!

The Norwegian cemetary in Eshowe is most definately not a pride to any Norwegian visiting the area and the cemetary itself. The cemetary looks very Nice, by all means, but no Norwegian organization, Foundation or authority has taken any responsibility for the graves or the cemetary. The only reason it looks neat and maintained is the fact that local authorities in Eshowe and Kwa-Zulu has spent Money on putting it back in shape and maintaining it, especially done by the effort of former Mayor Stan Larkan and his crew. It is such a shame and embarassment that Norwegian authorities or the mission does not take responsibility. All they need to do is to pay a small amount every year for the maintainance. In stead, like it is now, the local government pay for all the maintainance. These Money should have been spent to something much more useful in this area than to provide for a Norwegian cemetary. The cemetary has more than 120 names on the grave stones and they are all Norwegian or of Norwegian Heritage, mostly from missionaries that was working in Zululand, sent by Det Norske Misjonsselskap (NMS). We have been in touch With Det Norske Misjonsselskap and pledged for them to take some responsibility for the memory of their own missionaries, but they have so far refused to do so. Children of Zululand is not going to give up on this matter, we feel that Money for maintaining this Norwegian cemetary should come from Norway and not from a poor area of Africa. The Pictures here are just a small selection from the cemetary. We have made a registration on all names and dates on the grave stones. Any contribution to maintain this cemetary will be highly appreciated.
