In order to go to school in South Africa - even some kinder gardens, you need to have a school uniform. Each school or kinder garden has their own uniform. To buy a school uniform costs around NOK 1000 if you buy it new, including pants or skirts, shirts, shoes, tie and jacket or sweather/west. For many families this amount equals a full months income and if you have many children, this expence is hard to finance. Many buy second hand, which is fine, but some of the children are wearing pants or shoes that are completely worn out.
Many schools allow lack of uniform or "missing parts", but not all. Some schools also allow the children to be without shoes, as it is quite normal for many of the rural kids to grow up with no shoes on their feet.
We see that more and more schools demand each learner to get a school uniform and we now welcome sponsors to finance school uniforms to individual learners with NOK 1000. This will help one child to get a school uniform that will last him or her for at least a couple of years, sometimes longer.
