Siphezi Primary School has been one of our projects for a few years now. Together with principal Victor and with Linda de Lange as a frontier, we have managed to do valuable maintenance work to the school building, with new roof, windows and doors, a library room, computer, footballs and other activity items, school supply and much more.
We have a plan on renovating the toilet building and to re-open it + renovate the school kitchen and make it into a KFC-look-a-like building.
The school has 130-140 learners and a total of 6 teachers. Some of the teachers have to administer two classes at the same time, so they go back and forth between class rooms. The school is located quite rural, about 45 minutes drive from Eshowe town and many of the learners have quite long distance to walk back and forth between school and home every day.
One of our young associates, Elvis, voluntared as a teacher at this school for more than 1 year, with no salary. This was of great value to the school. He has now moved on to another school where he now gets paid. He study to become a professional teacher part time. Also the founders son, Lindokuhle started his teaching career at this school, also as un-paid help. He later moved on to Hope Valley Farm School in Pietermaritzburg, where he is still teaching. He is also studying part time to become a professional teacher.
