The Mayor, Mr Zulu and ex-governor, Stan Larkan request help
Children of Zululand were contacted by ex-governor of King Cetshwayo District, Stan Larkan and Mayor of UMlalazi, Mr Zulu and requested to consider building a house for a disabled young man, Sipho Madela and his grand mother. We were invited to take part in a public meeting with the municipal council of UMlalazi, where the matter were debated and where Children of Zululand were introduced. The municipal council welcomed the suggestion from Mr Zulu and welcomed Children of Zululand to do this charity action for the Madela family. The request was for Children of Zululand to sponsor 50 % of the construction cost of the house. The other half would be sponsored locally. Children of Zululand asked a IT company, Compilo AS, if they would be able to sponsor this house and they accepted to sponsor 50 % of the house.
Halv sponsorship turns into full sponsorship
In the middle of the construction, long before the house was ready, we were contacted by Stan Larkan. He told us that the local sponsorship for one half of the house fell through and asked Children of Zululand if we could sponsor even the rest.
Thore asked for some time to look for possible sponsors and already the same day he returned to Stan Larkan, that the other half would be sponsored by Rådhus Panorama AS.
From here and forward, the construction went smoothly and the house was finished as planned, for Sipho and his grand mother to move in. The house has a main room and 2 bed rooms. There is electricity installed, the house is furnished and there is water supply on the outside wall, combined with a big water tank.
Children of Zululand follow up with support
Every time we are in Zululand we visit Sipho and his grand mother. We bring them clothes, food, personal effects and we give them financial support. In addition, our local manager, Linda visits from time to time with diapers and food. Sipho recognizes us very well and always have a big smile on his mouth when we arrive.
We will keep visiting Sipho when we can and follow up on food, sponsoring and diapers.
